Dekton vs Silestone vs Sensa vs Scalea: Which Cosentino Worktop Is Right for You?

Cosentino makes four distinct worktop surfaces, and if you’re not familiar with the range, it’s easy to assume they’re just different marketing names for the same material. They’re not — each is built differently, and each suits a different kind of kitchen or lifestyle. Here’s the practical breakdown. (Choosing cabinetry too? Read our guide to German vs British kitchens.)

Dekton

Dekton is Cosentino’s most technically advanced surface — an ultra-compact material produced under high pressure and heat, resulting in strong resistance to heat, scratches, UV exposure and staining. It’s one of the most durable options you can choose for a worktop, which makes it a strong choice for busy family kitchens or anyone who wants lower maintenance worry about hot pans or sharp knives directly on the surface.

Best for: high-use kitchens, outdoor kitchen extensions (UV-stable), anyone prioritising long-term durability over cost.

Silestone

Silestone is a quartz-based surface, offering a wide range of colours and finishes with strong resistance to scratches and stains, plus (in Cosentino’s newer HybriQ+ formulations) a reduced environmental footprint compared to older quartz production methods. It’s a proven, well-established choice with a very wide design range.

Best for: homeowners who want maximum colour/finish choice with excellent day-to-day durability at a more accessible price point than Dekton.

Sensa

Sensa is Cosentino’s natural granite range, pre-sealed with a protective coating that makes it more stain-resistant than untreated granite. It gives you the genuine look and texture of natural stone — no two slabs identical — with more practical day-to-day maintenance than raw granite would offer. As with any natural stone, it benefits from periodic resealing and careful cleaning to keep that protection performing well.

Best for: anyone who specifically wants the authentic look of natural stone rather than an engineered surface, without the higher maintenance of untreated granite.

Scalea

Scalea is Cosentino’s natural stone range beyond granite — including marble, quartzite and other premium natural materials — for those who want a specific, often more dramatic natural stone look. Like Sensa, it benefits from periodic resealing and careful cleaning, reflecting its natural composition.

Best for: feature worktops or islands where the natural stone appearance is the priority, in kitchens where a bit of extra maintenance routine isn’t a barrier.

Making the decision

If low maintenance and maximum durability matter most, Dekton wins. If you want wide design choice with strong everyday durability, Silestone is the well-rounded option. If the appeal is genuine natural stone character, Sensa or Scalea will get you there — Sensa if you want granite with easier upkeep, Scalea if you want the widest range of natural stone types including marble.

All four are available to view and compare in person at our Harpenden showroom — seeing samples under real light next to your chosen cabinetry finish, and alongside options for St Albans and surrounding-area projects, makes this decision far easier than comparing photos online.
